“I want an Instagram chic kitchen,” I told my husband when we moved into our house.

He had no idea what that meant, but he nodded pleasantly and we set about trying to copy all the ultra-sleek kitchens that were in the “saved” section of my Insta app.

The problem though, is that once you start using a kitchen, it’s nearly impossible to maintain that minimalist look – especially, I’ve found, when it comes to tableware.

You can buy a toaster that matches your light fixtures and spend hours organizing a spice rack, complete with calligraphy name tags on all the herb shakers, but you’ll inevitably end up with a pile of dishes drying out. side of the sink and it will ruin the whole aesthetic.

So I set myself a mission. Find a dish drainer that would be both functional and wouldn’t ruin the look of the kitchen, or look like an eyesore when people show up.

Enter the Joseph Joseph Connect 3-Piece Adjustable Dish Drainer.

I bought it out of desperation one evening on Amazon, having already tried several dish racks (all much more expensive and, yes, pretty, but useless in reality).

Having been burned by my previous attempts, I was hesitant to feel happy with the purchase, but as soon as it arrived I knew I had nothing to worry about.

It’s the closest thing to modern art we have in our kitchen now – it’s sleek, it’s aesthetic, its multiple layers can be adjusted to make it as useful as possible and the perfect size for the volume of dishes you have, plus it has a built-in spout so it drains straight into the sink rather than just collecting cloudy dishwater at the bottom and looking (and looking) smell) unsightly.

The dish drainer is available in two colours: white and green or gray and black. (Joseph Joseph)

If you’re not someone who’s spent hours and hours looking for the perfect dish drainer then my answer might sound a little OTT, but I promise, until you’ve had a handy version which also ticks the pretty box, you’ve won I don’t fully understand the joy.

It even facilitates the actual act of washing up then unstacking the drained crockery, thanks to the mobile cutlery drainer and the spacing between the crockery-holding claws.

Plus, the non-slip rubber feet mean that even when the sideboard is covered in moss, there’s no risk of it slipping, meaning less chance of breaking things or having to continually rebalance all the dishes .

I’ve already converted several friends and even my husband, who was skeptical of me spending more money on ‘kitchen gadgets’, agrees that it’s worth at least triple its value.

So, will the Joseph Joseph Connect 3-Piece Adjustable Dish Rack instantly transform your home into an Instagram-worthy abode? No, sorry). But will it improve your kitchen, save you time and effort, and keep your sink from looking like such an eyesore? Yes.

Did you think you couldn’t feel smug while doing the dishes? Think again, my friends.
