The first NFT trophy for the UEFA tournament goal to be presented on 15 October | New

MOSCOW, October 14, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Gazprom, Official Partner of the 2020 UEFA European Championship, to Present First-Ever NFT Trophy in Recognition of Best Goal Scored in this UEFA Euro 2020 October 15. The digital award will be presented to the striker of the Czech national football team Patrik Schick live on the Gazprom Football YouTube channel on 3:00 p.m. (4:00 p.m. Moscow time).

The NFT trophy, which combines sport, art and technology, will be presented to the public during the ceremony. The digital award initiated by Gazprom was created by Russian calligrapher Pokras Lampas.

In May 2021, UEFA has announced that Gazprom will sponsor the 2020 and 2024 editions of UEFA EURO. The terms of the cooperation included the awarding of the prize for the UEFA tournament goal EURO 2020, which was designed as an NFT trophy – a non-renewable digital version of a work of art.

Lampas created a 432-ball art installation, which became the physical prototype of the NFT Trophy, at Gazprom’s stand at the Football Village in Saint PETERSBOURG during the championship. On June 27, the prize prototype was broken down into individual balls, each of which was covered with a unique calligraphic ornament by the artist. The picturesque balloons were scanned, and on the eve of the championship final, on the night of July 10-11, they appeared on the streets of the 11 cities that hosted the 2020 UEFA European Championship: Amsterdam , Baku, Budapest, Bucharest, Glasgow, Copenhagen, London, Munich, Rome, Saint Petersburg and Seville. Thousands of residents and guests from European cities participated in the search for the bullets.

The ceremony will take place in the presence of the head of the Gazprom department and the press attaché of the chairman of the management board Sergei Kuprianov, UEFA Marketing Director Guy-Laurent Epstein, the artist Pokras Lampas, and the striker to score the goal Patrik Schick.

For reference

The NFT (non-fungible token), a unique digital certificate stored in the blockchain, guarantees the originality of the article and gives it exclusive rights. NFT technology was created in 2017 on the basis of Ethereum smart contracts. The first artwork to be turned into an NFT token was a black and white stencil by artist Banksy – a 2007 stencil titled Morons (White). Blockchain company Injective Protocol bought it, burned it, and created an NFT token – a virtual asset tied to “a digital sample of an art object.”

Russian artist Pokras Lampas is one of the most remarkable representatives of modern calligraphy. In his works he combines elements of street art, typography and calligraphy from different cultures. He was invited to play the role of official ambassador of the calligraffiti style, while working on the creation and promotion of his own kind of calligraffiti.

In August 2021, he sold the tenth article of the Manifeste du calligrafuturisme for 2,500,000 rubles (roughly 40,000 USD) on the Binance NFT marketplace. Total sales of ten items amounted to over 10,500,000 rubles (145,000 USD). All works are now in private digital collections.
