LOS ANGELES, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) — Disney’s California Adventure Park kicked off Year of the Tiger celebrations on Friday, with a series of Chinese culture-themed shows, art exhibits, lantern decorations and Asian-inspired dishes.

Visitors from all over the world joined in the special celebrations taking place from January 21 to February 13, immersing themselves in a festival atmosphere and sharing their wishes for good health, luck and prosperity throughout the coming year.

The Chinese Lunar New Year 2022 falls on February 1. It is based on a 12-year cycle of zodiac characters, with 2022 being the year of the tiger.

The colorful Chinese Lunar New Year theme has transformed the park into a sea of ​​red and gold – the traditional colors of Chinese New Year – and a wonderland of festive Asian holiday cheer.

This year’s Lunar New Year celebrations brought to light a new float for the legendary Chinese warrior Mulan, accompanied by traditional Chinese drums performing powerful rhythms.

Decorated in red and gold to symbolize good fortune and happiness, the float features bright clusters of red firecrackers that hang from golden tassels, and delicate red and gold lanterns light up for performances after the sun goes down. .

During the procession, Mulan and her cunning dragon friend Mushu were surrounded by performers bringing cultural art and dance to life.

Disney characters including Tigger, Mulan and Mushu, Mickey and Minnie and the Three Little Pigs, all dressed in festive Chinese attire, greeted visitors.

San Francisco-based musical group Melody of China performed a fusion of Chinese folk, classical and contemporary instruments.

During Disney’s Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations, park visitors enjoyed traditional Asian dishes, such as Shrimp Fried Rice, Siu Pork Bao Char and more.

They are also welcome to try out Chinese arts and crafts, such as Chinese calligraphy and dragon bead coloring crafts.

“It’s amazing to see Mulan floating around,” local visitor Jailyn Mitchell told Xinhua.

“I love Chinese culture and love the different ways to celebrate it,” said Mitchell, who has experienced Disney’s Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations multiple times.

Disneyland Resort spokeswoman Alexa Garcia told Xinhua that Lunar New Year celebrations have been a “fan favourite” for the past few years, showcasing diverse cultures and offering lots of fun things to do, see and taste. for visitors.

People like to experience and engage with Chinese culture in different ways, she said.
