Santa Fe vs Blazer: SUVs with looks

Hyundai Santa Fe

The Hyundai Santa Fe sits between the tiny Tucson and the larger Palisade in the Hyundai lineup, making it the right size for many people. If you want more room than a compact SUV but don’t need that third row of seats, the Santa Fe is an affordable and practical choice.

At its base, the Santa Fe comes standard with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. While we thought it was a bit uninspiring on our test drive, it’s enough to get around town if you’re not carrying a lot of people or items. If you regularly need to transport several people and their belongings, we suggest you upgrade to the 2.5-liter turbocharged engine that produces 277 horsepower.

The Santa Fe is also available in hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. The former has EPA ratings of 36 mpg city / 31 mpg highway, while the latter has a pure electric range of 32 miles.

All Santa Fe models are available with all-wheel drive and come with three drive modes: Comfort, Sport, and Intelligent, allowing the SUV to think through and decide which drive mode best suits your driving style.

The Santa Fe comes standard with features like adaptive cruise control, smart safety detection features, and a standard 8-inch display with Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. It also comes standard with Hyundai’s 10-year / 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, the best in the industry.

Top trims, Limited and Calligraphy, come with the standard turbocharged engine and benefit from a number of high-end upgrades including nappa leather seats, 360-degree camera, blind spot monitor, and audio. high-end Harmon Kardon.

Chevrolet Blazer

Muscular and handsome, the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer has a distinctively sporty look, supported by engine choices and impressive handling for a midsize SUV. Chevrolet ditched the previous base, normally aspirated 4-cylinder engine, so buyers now choose between a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder or a 308-horsepower 3.6-liter V6. A 9-speed automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels or all four if you get the optional all-wheel drive.

Most people are likely to be happy with the base engine, but the V6 pairs well with the sporty vibe. The handling is precise and the brakes are confident.

Inside, the Blazer has a simple, sporty feel, with a standard 8-inch touchscreen controlling the infotainment. Rear-seat space is a bit tight for adults, and with all the seats folded down, there’s 64.2 cubic feet of cargo space – roomy enough, but not the best out there. With the proper packaging, the Blazer can tow up to 4,500 pounds.

Basic features include the 8-inch screen with Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay, as well as Amazon Alexa integration and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Also included are dual-zone air conditioning and Chevy Safety Assist package with automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist with lane departure warning and forward collision warning, among other safety aids.

The upgraded RS version offers a sportier vibe, V6 horsepower and a more sophisticated all-wheel drive system. At the top is the Premier, with perforated leather seats. These fittings are delivered as standard with the navigation.
